Out for Undergrad is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping high-achieving lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) undergraduates reach their full potential in their careers. We are a network of volunteers from the professions we seek to serve. Many of us are graduates of O4U’s conferences. Click through to learn about our teams and the individuals that comprise them.
We held our first conference — the inaugural Out for Undergrad Business Conference in the fall of 2004 at Cornell University. The conference was geared towards LGBT undergraduates interested in pursuing careers in management consulting and investment banking, two industries that had been historically perceived as challenging environments for LGBT students.
Our first conference was a big success. We received extremely positive feedback, and decided to annualize our conference. We also decided to professionalize our organization, creating our first Board of Directors later that year.
Since its founding, Out for Undergrad has expanded significantly. In 2012 we launched the Out for Undergrad Technology Conference, almost doubling our undergraduate reach and growing our influence beyond Wall Street into Silicon Valley and the industries and communities that work with it.
In 2014 we launched the University Program, an effort to educate, inspire, connect, and advance our students year-round.
Today our alumni number in the thousands and represent a generation of exceptional LGBT people.
OUR STRATEGY FOR 2015
Building on the success of OUBC and OUTC, and seeking to serve even more students — from an even longer list of schools and an even more diverse range of backgrounds — this year we will be piloting two new conferences: an Engineering Conference, for students interested in careers in engineering, energy, defense, aerospace, and life sciences; and a Marketing Conference, for students interested in careers in marketing, branding, retail, or consumer products.
We’ll also be focused on deepening our transformative impact, building a stronger network for program alumni, and strengthening our organization so we can function as a world-class team.
