Do I need to have knowledge of consulting or financial services?

Absolutely not. The conference’s content is designed for both students who are committed to careers in consulting or financial services as well as for students who are exploring these industries or even just curious. Our sponsors hire students from a variety of backgrounds and we encourage undergraduate students with all areas of focus to attend the conference.

Do I need to be a senior to attend the conference?

No. We encourage all undergraduate students to attend the conference. In past years about 50% of attendees have been seniors, 25% juniors and the rest evenly spread over sophomores and first-years.

Do I need to be lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) to attend the conference?

The conference’s agenda and content is specifically geared towards LGBT students. While allies are welcome to attend, the conference organizers and sponsors believe that those who do not identify as LGBT may find the conference less meaningful and would be using unique resources dedicated to LGBT undergraduates.

Will I be ‘outed’ if I attend the conference?

Information about the conference attendees is strictly confidential and will not be released without permission to anybody but the conference’s sponsoring firms.

Should I submit my resume?

While a resume is not required to attend the conference it is highly recommended that you submit yours so that it can be included in the resume book which is distributed to corporate sponsors and used in their recruiting efforts. Additionally, for students applying for a scholarship, a resume is required.

Are scholarships available to attend the conference?

Yes, scholarships that cover the cost of a flight to New York City, a hotel room while in New York as well as meals during the conference are offered. We encourage students to register early as scholarships are competitive and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you receive a scholarship you are required to attend all conference events. The registration fee is not covered by the OUBC scholarship.

What are the criteria for receiving a scholarship?

Scholarships are distributed on a need-blind basis, based on merit, and given on a first-come, first-serve basis. We encourage students to register as early as possible as scholarship funding is limited. Scholarships are distributed by a team of professionals from sponsoring firms who base their decisions on criteria in-line with their hiring practices (i.e. leadership activity, GPA, coursework, etc.).

When will I find out if I have received a scholarship?

Scholarships are given out on a first-come, first-serve rolling basis. We anticipate that you will be notified within four weeks of your application whether you will receive a scholarship.

If I am admitted and receive a travel scholarship, can I select my roommate?

You will be sharing your hotel room with another person of the same sex. Unfortunately, we cannot facilitate roommate requests. The conference is a chance for you to network with young students from all over the country and will be a great opportunity to meet new friends and professional contacts.
